Town Hall Breaking News - Council Meeting

Despite the fact the Northern Echo regularly sends a reporter to cover the Darlington Borough Council meetings the follow up reporting in the newspaper is minimal.
Perhaps this is because the Echo thinks the whole business is uninteresting or more likely because some editorial individual supporting Labour does not want to see them taken to task.
Nevertheless we will try and fill the information blackhole.
The Council met on Thursday 26th November.

There was all party support for the revisions to the Gambling Act of 2005
Similarly there was all party support to ensure members of the Council's Audit committee were properly trained in Treasury Management

All parties supported the re-designation of a Senior Officer in the Adult Social Care and Housing Department.

There was all party support in confirming Adult Social care contracts.

Considerable discussion took place in respect of the mayors Charity Shop and all parties agreed a solution to keep the shop should be found.

Cllr Johnson,Chairman of Evolution said he would leave no stone unturned to keep the shop and all the Liberal Democrat political hot air is not the way forward.

There was a lengthy debate of the future of the consultation forums held in the Town.
The Labour Group wished to get rid of the Environment Forum,Transport Forum and the Town Centre forum.

Cllr G Cartwright put forward an early amendment to keep these valuable consultation bodies and this would be voted upon.

Cllr Johnson then called for a named vote which was defeated by five Labour votes.
With reference to the Talking together event on dogs, Cllr Johnson said contrary to the report it was a shambles and this was the reason dog owners did not attend the second event.

Councillor Dixon was asked why none of the residents of Dinsdale Court wished to return to the new building,he did not reply

The Council were reminded the revenue budget despite receiving some one off income payments was still in departmental deficit and was not as rosy as the report suggests.

Cllr Mrs Scott asked Cllr Williams the leader of the Cabinet to make a public apology in request of the cabinets failure to manage the Pedestrian Heart project costing the taxpayer many thousands of additional pounds.

Cllr Williams ignored the request.
