Having had the Labour Candidates leaflet through my door it appears the poor dear has got it all wrong, when Labour HQ said exaggerate claims, they meant expenses if she becomes MP not exaggerated claims on her leaflet things like;
Backing strict rules on on immigration - Labour have allowed the flood gates to be opened to socially engineer our Nation for votes.
Getting more people off benefits and work to beat anti-social behaviour - Labour have created an underclass of people who have no aspiration, they take no responsibility for there actions, this is directly attributable to this Government.
Helped COUNTLESS community projects - I think a number could be put to this spurious claim.
The best I have saved till last, I quote "I will fight tooth and nail to stop any government taking services and investment away from Darlington" - This obviously does not count when at last months special budgetary council meeting (the Labour candidate also a Town Councillor conspicuous by her absence) the ruling Labour group decided that spending cuts and a staff redundancy plan was the chosen solution to the current deficit.

I consider the comments from the Labour candidate for Darlington published in the Northern Echo in respect of unfair publicity both flippant and arrogant.
It is not a storm in a teacup and it does matter.
Clearly the principle of the misuse of taxpayers resources is irrelevant to her.
But then she has shown this trait when a Cabinet member.

She is right that 100 cards will not influence anyone’s vote but that is not the point, the point is the rules have been broken, she is dismissing the incident because “only” 100 cards were produced, would 1000 or 10,000 card have made it more serious, of course not, the rules were broken irrespective of the number of cards produced.
Laws, rules and regulations underpin our maintenance of a law abiding society but clearly Jenny Chapman has little regard for the rules as she refers to the situation as a “storm in a teacup”, demonstrating that she is not taking the matter seriously.
For those who want to listen she is giving a clear message there that she has little regard for the rules, are these qualities that we want to see in an MP for Darlington, I think not!

I dont normally get involved in elections but since been made redundant last year in August and still not been able to find work Im sick of all the rubbish when there is a simple question not being asked. Over the last decade there has been a steady stream of jobs to the sub continent of around 3000 a year mostly in the call centre customer service sector. Yet these companies based still in the UK rake in huge profits. NOw with more and more companies looking to do this meaning more Indian , Pakistan and Banglideshy workers been in work and more and more people like me with 7 plus years not. Tax these banks, mobile phone companies, etc so that it becomes more viable for them to hire English again than to hire and set up foreign

When will Labour Party orators realise they have been in power for three terms, more than enough time to put their policies into practice and then be mesasured against them.
Much as Labour would like to , they can't keep blaming the Tories for the mess socialist dogma has brought to our Nation.

So from Milburns PA to Parliamentry Candidate, she has said already that she would not be seeking ministerial office, first dear you have to win and secondly so do your party, the smart money is on a change of Government so the "no ministerial" is an easy win and lets not forget that she is to put Darlington first is that the same as Sedgefield MP putting the post offices in his constituency that were due for closure first and then voting to close them or the Milburn way of putting Darlington first and then never setting foot in the place after the "first" year he was elected.
One thing we can be sure of is that the Labour candidate is most definatley new labour, with her easy talk of no substance.

Pedestrian Heart
Councillor Williams admission of responsibility for policy is surely enough for his resignation. Past policies of trying to close Hurworth School, building a Tesco supermarket next to St Cuthberts Church are more than adequate for him to resign. He and his “yes men” authorised overspend on the Pedestrian Heart project and not the project management. The overspend of £780k is more likely to be into millions considering the abortive time spent by the hierarchy in trying to blame others for the fiasco. We have seen his policy for the gradual destruction of the unique Victorian features that were an attraction for tourists. The tacky High Row looks the same as anywhere else in the country. We have a crazy town transport system where all town buses have to make one lap around the ring road. So much for common sense and a greener Darlington. Objections against the Pedestrian Heart project were ignored by the leadership under the attitude of. “this is what you are going to get whether you like it or not”. But public silence from his “yes men” could mean that he might not have their support. Could there be a new “leader in waiting” within the midst of the cabinet?

Love the new look website. Glad the local Conservatives are keeping up with the times.
See Labour are still hanging onto old ways! John Williams still can't accept resposibility over gas pipe bungle. Saying that he is there to shape policy and not to manage the authority is cowardly. Local politicians should lead by example and lead from the front not hid behind rhetoric and disingenuous comments.
He has no honour!

Lighting a fire so you can put it out!
"Gordon Brown has pledged to curb a "culture of excess" in senior public sector pay and bonuses as he detailed plans to cut another £3 billion from the cost of running Government.
The Prime Minister said many salaries above £150,000 and £50,000-plus bonuses would in future require ministerial approval as part of an efficiency drive."
Gordon Brown was the matermind of the "culture of excess" during his years as Chancellor! Public Secor pay at the very top has risen disproportianally under New Labour so Browns announcement today is little more than trying to put out a fire that you started in the first place and then trying to make yourself look like the hero.
The electorate have grown wise to these tricks and won't be fooled any longer. Come on Gordon do the decent thing and call a general election!

Mega Blunder
We have read in N Echo about the magnitude of Darlington Borough Council’s incompetence on the Pedestrian Heart project. They say that the overspend was £880k but realistically it is much more than this. If, on top of the original overspend of £2.9m we add the £880k (£3.78m), and then the number of hours that the hierarchy of DBC have expended in trying to blame others for the fiasco, the overall cost to the council tax payers must be around £4.5million. But astoundingly, some of the council personnel responsible for the disaster are still working for us. As for the council leadership! He refuses to resign whilst he has the support of his “yes men” but silence from them suggests that he may not have the support that he assumes!
