A beacon of democracy and transparency?
Town Hall Breaking News - DARLINGTON COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING

On the evening of the 21st May , Darlington Council holds its annual Council meeting.
Its purpose is twofold , firstly to elect a new Mayor Cllr Jim Ruck
and a Deputy Mayor for the year 2009/10.
Secondly to appoint elected members to the various committees required to conduct the council business.
There are several principal committees namely Cabinet , Five scrutiny committees ,Planning and Licensing with a plethora of smaller support committees and forums.
With the exception of Cabinet where all members are drawn from the controlling Labour group other committees are made up of cross party members albeit in politically proportional numbers.
Cabinet,Planning and Licensing are decision making committees with Scrutiny committees limited to review and recommendation.
Planning and Licensing committees are also subject to an appeal processes.
Tradition is maintained in Darlington for the election of Mayors and appointments and the meeting supports the process without the need for political debate.

Darlington Comment - THE LABOUR PARTY IN MELTDOWN

We now see very clearly the unacceptable face of Labour, once called the party of the people now has its senior players clinging on to personal ambition at the expense of our country.
Letting in the BNP at the Euro elections was bad enough , clinging on to a fragment of power to protect ones self interest is a different scale of political decision making which can only be dispised.
Let there be no doubt about Gordon Brown's legacy and why he has been abandoned by the seriously thinking Labour politicians.
He exacerbated the difficulties to Britain in the Global economic crisis by pretending he was a good chancellor , he was not , he sold assets , raided pensions , put up taxes to fund an unprecedented spending spree to give the impression he was managing the nation's economy.
He was reluctantly given the job of prime minister by Blair and we now realise why , Blair knew Brown could not cut the mustard but had little choice in the matter.
His performance as Prime minister has bordered on the ridiculous , a man with no statesman attributes , unaware of the realities of life , and the most questionable demeanour.
It is fair to say Gordon has been the worst Prime minister in living memory and his record of achievement is lamentable.
He has decided not to " walk away " and his second rate Cabinet are supporting him , of course they would , a job at any price and damn the integrity.
Unfortunately Britain will continue to decline but how much lower can we get

THE MILLION POUND QUESTION

Is there any News about Alan Milburn?
We have had snippets and teasers in his supporting newspaper the Northern Echo about his " extra expenses" and that he was one of the Northern conspirators plotting to remove Gordon Brown. The latter statement subsequently proved incorrect with of couse an effusive apology from his protector the Northern Echo
Nevertheless what our Government needs is to be transparent in democracy and solid in integrity.
It also needs to be firm in managing Westminster so that all parties comply with these principles.
Weak leadership results in a weak Government resulting in a third rate Britain, that is not the British way.

Wind-farms essential or eyesores

HOT PLACES - GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

Development in sustainable energy sources have wind power leading the way.
Unlike the USA where there are wind-farms covering many acres of land onshore wind-farms in the UK are currently limited in size.
Wind driven generators are elegant machines, reasonably efficient however low in output and are unable to match the megawatts from a typical UK power station.
Wind-farms will always be a supplement to conventional fossil or nuclear fuelled generation and the idea of wind energy replacing current generating practice would create enormous intrusion on the countryside.
Planners will need the judgement of Solomon to balance the needs of wind-farm developers and our rural landscapes.
